Jane Velez Mitchell, video of her keynote speech at the 2014 American Equine Summit

Jane Velez Mitchell

We can only hope that the ideas generated at this summit will turn into a productive message for the public and governments. Europe must be held accountable for their role in promoting horse slaughter. Jane Velez-Mitchell, a well known and respected journalist, was the keynote speaker — Click Here for the video of her speech.

The 2014 American Equine Summit, held on Saturday, April 26th and Sunday, April 27th at Equine Advocates Rescue & Sanctuary in Chatham, NY, brought out a record crowd to hear distinguished experts from North America talk about the need for a permanent ban on horse slaughter in the U.S. and shipping American horses into Canada or Mexico for the purpose of slaughter. Jane Velez-Mitchell, veteran television news journalist and best-selling author, kicked off the Summit with a rousing Keynote Address about the need for a "global fight" against horse slaughter and the use of "double-speak" where the U.S. government is concerned about wild horses and burros. Victoria McCullough, international equestrian, philanthropist and owner of Chesapeake Petroleum, spoke about the legal and logical arguments to win the end of horse slaughter. McCullough has been instrumental in getting slaughterhouses defunded in the U.S. and affirmed the current administration's concern over food safety. She pointed out a "global initiative for food safety" and how the U.S. must focus on getting Canada and Europe on board with removing equines from the food chain. Click Here to listen to videos by such distinguished expert speakers as Victoria McCullough, Suzanne Mitchell, Filmmaker, Ginger Kathrens, Executive Director of The Cloud Foundation and others from the 2014 American Equine Summit.
