Look What Love Can Do; From Abandonment and Starvation to Rescue and Rehabilitation

We think the pictures say it all when we look at the horses featured here. Ariana was found abandoned and starved in the desert; and estimated to be 21 years old. She arrived at Equine Voices on November 11, 2014 looking very sad and worn down.

Tia came to us on November 25, 2014, she was also found wandering in the desert, starved and alone. There was obvious sadness in Tia’s eyes upon arrival. Tia is thought to be close to 30 years old. It’s difficult for any horse to be abandoned, even harder when the horse is this age.

Tia hardly looks like the same horse! One of our volunteers said, "I never even realized Tia was a bay!"

Patches carries a similar story, she was found wandering in Dog Patch just south of Tucson, Arizona; a popular site for abandoning horses. Patches is thought to be an Arab cross and is estimated to be 4 years old. She arrived as a timid and hungry little horse.

Mocha arrived here on April 29, 2015. She came with her friend Delilah from starvation and neglect.

Upon seeing these horses, a few of the volunteers burst into tears; so severe was their neglect. Unfortunately, two days later, Delilah had to be put down due to severe sand-impaction. Delilah is laying down in the picture on the left. Mocha is improving every day and is finally getting a glow back in her eyes and in her coat.

Apollo is another Dog Patch survivor. He is thought to be about 30 years old and came in on April 30, 2015; underweight with a tumor on his eyelid. The tumor was removed in under 15 minutes.

These horses are living to tell their stories through us. They are walking examples of the power that compassion and love truly holds.
